I have suffered prolonged stomach illness for much longer period of 3 years. I had diarrhoea many times in this period as my digestive system was weak. 1.Eating light diet


While suffering from stomach illness/ diarrhoea it’s difficult to digest food. So eating light/easy to digest diet helps for faster recovery. Eat foods (With more liquid) like rice gruel, porridge, khichadi (Mixture of rice and lentils), Soups, rice. Eat small meals instead of two big meals. Big meals can cause more load on your digestive system. It’s better to eat light diet for 1 or 2 days after recovery from illness also.

2. Drink more fluids


Diarrhoea causes fluid loss from body so drink more fluids. Drinking more water helps to maintain hydration. Isotonic drinks hydrate body very well so take these drinks. Use oral hydrating solutions available at pharmacy or salt and sugar water .These also serve same purpose of hydrating and maintaining liquids in body. Take frequent sips of water, drinks if you have strong nausea.

 3.Ginger tea


Ginger aids digestion and helps to get rid of stomach pain. Ginger has antibiotic properties and helps curing from stomach discomfort. When you are recovering from diarrhoea drink ginger tea twice in a day is soothing.

Grate small piece of ginger and boil it in 2 cups of water.

When 1 cup of water remains strain it.

Add 1 tea spoon of honey in it and mix well.

4. Probiotics

Yoghurt also may help in treating stomach gas, diarrhoea, and other digestive problems. Yoghurt with “live and active cultures” listed is helpful. 5. Avoid certain foods


Diarrhoea makes digestive system weak and thus avoid hard digesting foods hard. Hard to digest foods can worsen the situation. And sometimes it may lead to aggravate the problem. Hard to digest foods  like Meat ,dry fruits, cheese, dairy foods, cheese ,alcohol ,spicy and oily foods should not be eaten. Eat easy to digest and light meals till recovery and also after few days of recovery. It will help to improve digestion faster recovery.
