How many of you have a dedicated room /space for your child? Is it really necessary ? Why would a child need own room when they can play in whole house ? My child sleeps with us and thus why would he/she need any dedicated room? These might be few questions flashing in your mind by reading the title of the post.
Though the children use same bedroom as that of parents, or have complete house for playing ,they need their own space. They need their space to imagine, to create, to play, to study, to draw , to read or do any of their favourite activity.
As its nuclear family era, many families have only parents and children living in the house /And if it’s only child then he/she may need company to play, to talk with. it’s not possible /feasible every time to get company of other kids or elder person. If they have their own space ,they can play with toys or entertain themselves at that place. Let’s see how child’s room/ corner helps your child:
Advantages of having own room/corner :
1.Child will feel it’s his /her own space and learn to be independent.
2.Children will become responsible.( Make sure to ask your child to keep all their toys and stuff neatly in their room after using it.) It will be of great help for mommy and child will learn to take care of all belongings from young age.
3.When you have guests at home or when you are watching Television ask your children to use their room.( Excess screen time can be avoided by engaging children in their own activities. )
4.Kids own room helps to shape up their imagination and creativity : let your child decorate his/her room/
5.Children need quite space to study or read books. Use this space for study purpose.

Here are simple tips for setting your child’s room/ corner :
1.Dedicate :different room or any available corner of the house for children. Make sure kids corner is clean, clutter-free and reserved only for kids and there should not be anything else.
2. Decorate: Keep on changing its setting after 2-3 months.( It’s not necessary to use all expensive furniture). But with easily available things like stickers,small toys,drawings and paintings done by your child can also be used to decorate child’s room. Use framed photos of child, small rainbow ,clouds ,Stars on the wall.
3.Name a room/corner :for princess room use stickers or paint crowns , princess , Barbie and dolls pictures. Write down sweet line E.G. – “My Diva Diana” .Use pink ,purple or white colour things for decorating princess corner. Your little princess will feel that she is in her own palace. For prince give a touch of playground to the room .For that use stickers or paint balls in motion ,bats ,rackets and also use favourite player poster on the wall for decorating. Write or paste line “My champion Ryan (kids name)”.The playground of your champion is ready to play.
4.Spread small washable playing mat (Printed with cartoon or alphabets ) in the children corner for seating or playing. Mat provides protection from falling while playing as well.
5. Keep small wooden or plastic table/ chair available in the child’s room, so that kids can study/eat food by seating on it.
6.If your child loves reading make tiny library of his/her favourite books, comics in separate shelf. It will help to start reading habits from the young age.
7.Keep a box of dry snacks like biscuits, water bottle in the room.
8.Keep all and toys, soft toys and books in the children’s room. Keep it covered in baskets or shelves.
9.Keep box of pencils, colours, crayons, glue, glitters as activity box in the children’s room. So kids can use it for drawing ,painting and other creations. Having little black/white board in the room will provide your child a canvas to draw or study.
10.Keep all your child’s medals ,certificates (of any achievement ) on shelf to encourage children.
