How I started exercising

I gained significant weight in my second pregnancy and postpartum period. The weight gain continued after delivery as well and that’s alarming situation. There were many things responsible for excess weight like the rich food diet , rest during pregnancy, no physical exercise. For including more nutritious foods in pregnancy my diet was full of rich and fatty foods. It had ghee, butter , milk , dry fruits, milk desserts , laddoo and sweets which contributed few more kilos in  my weight. I knew I was eating all fatty foods but being foodie I enjoyed eating all ghee coated, ghee poured desserts, ladoos.None of my old cloth was fitting me ,but mommy dear(ME :))  ignored  it and enjoyed the food indulgence.

I  ignored my doctors suggestions even to start light exercising after 4 months of delivery. “No time for exercise was the main reason”. There were times when I experienced lower back pain and didn’t feel like getting up from my bed . But I thought it’s because of c section operation.Actually my increased weight was reason for lower back pain.

One day while shopping vegetables in market I met one of my relative aunt and she asked about me  and  my elder daughter and then congratulated me by seeing my oversized  , pumpkin shaped Belly. It was shocking for me. Auntie didn’t know about my second baby and she thought I’m expecting.(By looking at my big belly anyone would have thought same). I disappointed with the incidence and  after coming home I saw myself in mirror carefully. My belly was significant large and the reason was that  ghee ladoos , rabadi, dry fruits, rest and no physical activity.I decided to work out for it and very next day I rushed to doctor .I asked her with hesitation “how to tuck tummy? And lose weight as soon as possible?” Kind lady asked me whether I have used belly belt which she has given to use after delivery. (Which I didn’t use) and also did I start light exercise? (That also i didn’t).           Doctor told ,it’s obvious to increase belly size after pregnancy and delivery, but it can be reduced to some extent with proper diet and exercising. And excess weight increases risk of diabetes and high blood pressure so its better to work out and maintain healthy weight.

For controlling weight now I determined to exercise regularly .Then I watched number of exercise videos, checked many classes for yoga, Zumba and aerobics but nothing wasn’t fitting in my time. I wanted to lose weight fast and so I searched all possible ways for it. And  the most  feasible, possible , and optimal  exercise for me was “Brisk  walking in morning”.I decided to start walking from next day morning.

But it’s my elder daughter’s  school time and husband’s office time in the morning , which made difficult for me to go walking in morning. Then I changed timings for exercise, I finished my morning work ,dropped my kid to school and then exercised at 9 am.After brisk walking for 2 days my leg muscle pain and I couldn’t move. It lead me to stop exercising. Actually stopping exercising is s the main mistake many people do ,as when we start any physical activity the muscles are not used to it and get strained ,but with continuous exercise the muscles get strong and pain disappears. Now knowing this fact and I maintain consistency in exercising.

I  follow some rules  for exercising regularly:

1. If not possible in the morning then I walk in evening at around 6 pm. (I always thought exercise should be done early in the morning ,but more than what time of the day,it is more important for me to exercise.)That’s exactly 5 hours after taking lunch.

2. I follow at least 30 minutes of walk every day and whenever I got time in the evening I gave 20 minutes for walking again.

3. I did not stop exercising because of muscle pain/ sore muscles. Also took  off  from exercising for day or two in week initially. Now I’m used to walk and thus no more rest days.

4.I never carry phone /Talk with anyone while walking as proper breathing while exercising is more important. And talking on phone /talking may not achieve proper breathing.

5. On busy day also I manage to walk for at least 20 minutes. As consistency in exercising is important to achieve better results.

6. Drinking water in between helps to keep body hydrated so i carry water bottle.

By following this easy-peasy exercise I could lose around 4 kg weight in last three months and most important is I feel more energetic and light.I noticed my belly still of pumpkin size:- )  but my lower back pain has disappeared and digestion improved. If you follow any exercise routine please let us know about it in comments section.

Rupali.
