As festival season around the corner everyone is gearing up for it. The winter has started and atmosphere is cold, windy and cosy. Just now Maa durga has been Immersed on Dussehra and people are getting ready to welcome Maa. The festival of lights , happiness – Diwali is in few days. The houses are getting decorated .The best outfits are getting out of the cupboard to get cleaned and ironed for the upcoming festivities. Lip smacking delicacies are cooked in the kitchen. This year I made most of the savoury snacks like chiwada, shew , murukku for the Diwali. I made very few sweets as no-one prefers sweets in my house.
But festivals are incomplete without sweets and so finally I decided to make this sweet. Actually on the occasion of Lakshmi Pooja sweets are offered to goddess Lakshmi and its mandatory to make or buy sweets. So I made these golden beauties, gulab jamun for Diwali evening celebrations. It’s one of the most popular dessert made using Khoya (Milk solids ). It has shelf life of 2-3 days as it’s dipped in sugar syrup. It needs good amount of time to make this dessert but its worth of the efforts. Jamuns can be made from khoya, paneer, milk powder or store brought readymade gulab jamun mix as well. There are many recipes for making gulab jamuns but I find khoya gulab jamuns tastiest and melt in mouth. While making gulab jamuns always start with making the sugar syrup as it takes time to reach one string consistency. One more tip for making this dessert is always fry gulab jamuns in ghee for unique taste.
Wish you all happy diwali !! Do try making this golden dessert on the occasion of festival and update us about it in comments section..
