Bhogichi bhaji

Sankranti / Pongal is the first festival celebrated at the starting of year. It’s spread across three days and every day has it’s own significance. We celebrate  all three days of Sankranti festival and it’s super fun. On the first day along with worshiping specific offerings are cooked for god. Girls draw henna on hands. On the second day sweet are distributed amongst friends and family. Married women gift tokens of love to each other. And on last day of festival small kids are offered feasts. So the festival has something for all aged group people.

Bhogichi bhaji is type of curry made especially on festive occasion of bhogi that is previous day of Sankranti. Varieties of fresh seasonal vegetables are used in bhogichi bhaji and nuts like sesame and peanuts used to spice it up. It is served with mainly bhakari or bajarichi bhakari and no doubt its delectable combo to have on festive occasions of Sankranti. Sesame seeds, jagery is hot in property and its good food for cold winter weather. I have posted here simple bhogichi bhaji recipe with available vegetables. You can add any choice of or available vegetables for making healthy and nutritious bhogichi bhaji.

Ingredients

  • Brinjal 2 chopped
  • Carrots 2 chopped
  • Green peas ½ cup
  • Beans chopped 1/ 2 cups
  • Tomato chopped 1 big size
  • Onions chopped 1
  • Green chili chopped 4
  • Coriander leaves chopped
  • Ginger small piece
  • Garlic cloves  5
  • Turmeric powder 1/4 tea spoon
  • Mustard seeds 9-10
  • cumin seeds 9-10
  • Peanuts 2 tb spoon
  • Sesame 2 tb spoon
  • Jagery ½ tea spoon
  • Coriander powder 1/4 tea spoon
  • Cumin seeds powder 1 tea spoon
  • Garam masala 1 tea spoon
  • Oil 1 tb Spoon
  • Water 2 cup
  • Salt as per taste


Directions

  1. Place your list items here 
    1. Roast peanuts and grind in the grinder.
    2. Roast sesame and grind in the grinder to coarse powder.
    3. Chop onions ,tomatoes ,chili and keep it aside.
    4. Crush  garlic, ginger to make paste .Keep it aside.
    5. Heat kadhai and add oil in it.
    6. Add cumin seeds and mustard ,asafoetida in oil once it gets hot.
    7. As mustard splutter add chopped onion in it and saute for  a minute.
    8. Add ginger and garlic paste in it and saute for a minute.
    9. Add chopped tomatoes  in kadhai and saute for 3 to 4 minutes.
    10. Add all vegetables in kadhai and mix well. Let it cook for 3-4 minutes.
    11. Add cumin ,coriander powder, turmeric, salt and garam masala in vegetables.
    12. Add jagery, sesame and peanuts powder in vegetables and mix well.
    13. Add enough water (As per required consistency) for cooking  vegetables.
    14. Cook  bhogichi bhaji for another 4-5 minutes.
    15. Switch off gas  and  garnish  it with  coriander leaves.
    16. Serve Bhogichi bhaji with Bajarichi bhakari .
