If we name street snacks  Batata vada  / potato vada will be there on top of list . Its famous type of snacks made using spicy potato curry.It is  also used for making many type of chats. I like vada paw the most  which is combinations of batata vada , chutney and soft bun.As a child I used to gorge on this potato vada and vada paw every second day at school canteen.Now because of the high calories in it , I avoid deep fried foods. I make this vada in appe pan which helps to avoid deep frying of snacks.It tastes equally good and needs only few drops oil for cooking.When you are making batata vada next time try making it in appe pan.

For making potato vada potato curry  is used to form dumplings which later deeped in gram flour paste and fried in oil.I make batata vada as a evening snacks ,with little twist in it.I add grated fresh coconut/ fresh peas while making potato curry and it turns out absolutely delicious.Try making this potato vada sprinkling fresh coconut and you would definitely like it.

  1. Wash and boil potatoes in pressure cooker.
  2. After potatoes get cooled peel off the covers.
  3. Cut boiled potatoes
  4. Chop green chilies and make past of ginger and garlic.
  5. Heat pan and add 1 tb spoon oil in it.
  6. Add mustard and cumin seeds to crackle in hot oil.
  7. Add chopped green chilies and saute for a minute.
  8. Add ginger garlic paste in pan and saute for a minute.
  9. Add potatoes pieces in pan and saute.
  10. Add all dry spices in potatoes and mix well.
  11. Sprinkle grated fresh coconut on potato curry to get extra rich taste of vada.
  12. Cook potato curry for another 3-4 minutes and switch off gas.
  13. Make batter for coating vada using besan flour,salt,chili ,turmeric and cumin powder.Add water as per required consistency.
  14. Make small balls of potato curry by hand and deep these balls in besan batter for coating it with.
  15. Heat oil in pan and deep fry besan coated batata vada in hot oil
  16. Serve batata vada with ketchup or with paw.
