Murukku

I made murukku ,(south Indian snacks made up of rice and urad dal ) and it turned out absolutely tasty.For family get  together i buy snacks from store and murukku was always hit at my home.This time for party at my home i decided to make murukku in advance as it has good shelf life.I always make chakali at home (snacks made up from lentils and rice) maharashtrian version of murrukku, but never tried this urad dal and rice recipe.

Though it was my first time, snacks turned out very well , crunchy and tasty.It takes less preparations and gets ready in few minutes.

  1. Dry roast urad dal on low flame till it turns golden brown
  2. After cooling urad dal grind it in grinder to get fine powder.
  3. Mix urad dal powder with rice flour.
  4. Add salt, chili powder, carom seeds in flours and knead hard dough adding water in it.
  5. For making spirals take small ball of dough and place it in in murukku mould. Make small spirals on butter paper by pressing mould.
  6. Heat pan and add oil in it.
  7. Deep fry spirals in oil on both sides.Make sure to keep gas flame on medium.
  8. After getting cold store murukku in air tight container.
