I like festivals as lots of food items are made for celebrations. Preparations for festivals start quite before the actual celebrations. It includes pre-planning, shopping and then actual cooking of variety of snacks. I always waited for Diwali as a child. My mother used to make many delicious snacks for Diwali celebrations. Poha chiwada or mixture is my most favourite from savoury snacks league made for Diwali. It used to be mixture of have fried potato chips, fried dry fruits and roasted thin poha. My mother used to make yummiest poha chiwada with sweet and tangy taste.
Poha chiwada is tasty mixture of flattened rice, nuts and selected spices. You can add your choice of ingredients to give different taste to chiwada. Few ingredients to give special taste to chiwada can be dry coconut slices, raisins, citric acid, potato chips, cashew nuts, almonds. About spices used, I use very few spices like cumin, coriander powders and fennel seeds. But varieties of spices are available in market to make special chiwada.
