Rava idli or instant idli is quick version of idli and needs only two main ingredients.As idli is one of the healthiest breakfast recipe in world, I  often make it .But there are some times when i forget to soak rice and lentils for making idli.This is time when this  instant idli comes to rescue.This idli batter dosen’t need fermentation so no prior preparation is necessary.Rava idli gets ready quickly and tastes like fermented batter idlis.Advantage of this idali is you can add choice of dry fruits and veggies in it.Generally cashew nuts , mutter / peas is added in idli, But you can add any vegetables of choice for more nutrition. My daughter says its cashew nut idli as generally I add cashew nuts  an grated carrots in it while making. This idli served with sambhar and  any choice of chutaney.Its good option for kids lunch box.Crushed oats can also be added in idli batter for making Oats rava idli.   1. Roast semolina on low flame for 8-9 minutes.
  2. Let semolina cool down to room temperature and add curd in it.Mix well and set aside for 1 hour.
  3. Heat oil in pan and add mustard and cumin seeds in it.
  4. Pour this hot tempering in semolina mixture.
  5. Add salt , soda and water as per idli batter consistency in semolina mixture and mix well.
  6. Grease idli moulds with oil and pour this semolina batter in it.
  7. Steam idlis for 15-20 minutes in steamer or idli cooker.
  8. Serve rava idli with any choice of chutaney.
